The Authenticity of Ones Identity Created by the Passport Term Paper

The Authenticity of Ones Identity Created by the Passport - Term Paper Example As Hall keeps up, maybe as opposed to considering character a previously cultivated actuality, which the new social practices they speak to, we should think, rather, of way of life as a 'creation', which is rarely finished, consistently in process, and consistently comprised inside, not outside, portrayal. (Hall, p. 222). In a nearby examination if Hall's view, it turns out to be certain that the very power and legitimacy to which the term 'social character' lays guarantee are tested here and it opens up a discourse or an examination on the subject of social personality and portrayal. An intelligent examination of Diaspora corresponding to personality, especially exploring whether a person's visa characterizes what his identity is, makes it evident that, with such a significant number of socially various individuals and individuals conceived and living outside their local nations, a record expressing one's name, date of birth, sex and spot of birth basically can't characterize the in dividual. Â In request to grasp the connection among Diaspora and personality, it is basic to have a basic, intelligent, and unambiguous use of the term 'diaspora' as against the uncritical, unreflective use of the term to any settings of worldwide dislodging and development. When thoroughly considering the class of diaspora and its association with geopolitical substances, for example, country state, it gets crucial to think about the significant job of country arrangement and development in the advanced world. While social and abstract pundits have been progressively worried about how to reevaluate ideas of natio nhood and national personality, it is fundamental that such basic examinations consolidate contemporary types of development, dislodging, and separation - from movement to oust. In reality, these inquiries are inseparably connected to a hypothesis of Diaspora. In a basic investigation of contemporary types of development, dislodging, and disengagement from movement to banish, according to Diaspora and personality, the job of visa so as to characterize one's personality comes into question. In this manner, it is key to dissect whether our travel papers can characterize who we are on the grounds that such basic examinations can uncover various parts of Diaspora comparable to personality. With regards to the cutting edge world with various socially assorted individuals and individuals conceived and living outside their local nations, the identification which is an archive expressing one's name, date of birth, sex and spot of birth, essentially can't characterize an individual or his so cial personality. Â In the cutting edge universe of globalization, one's personality is essentially dictated by one's identification, which is a report expressing one's name, date of birth, sex and spot of birth, and the legitimacy of such an archive in characterizing one's personality corresponding to Diaspora is for the most part addressed.

â€Å"Corrections accreditation is expected to improve office activities through adherence to clear guidelines pertinent to all territories/tasks of the office, including wellbeing, security, request, detainee care, projects, equity, and administration† (â€Å"American Correctional Association†, n.d.). Personal Statement Tip Story Time (Part 1)

The moment I found the lump, I suspected my life was about to change—in a big way. Good enough for an opening line? Want to read more? I hope it’s yes on both counts. Because I’m going to tell you a story. A short one. A true one. Not so much for the sake of this particular story, but to get you to think about your own life—your achievements, dreams, and challenges—in stories. It’s busy season, yours and ours, for applications, and one of the best ways to set yourself apart is to tell a good story, in individual essays and with your overall application. So how do you tell a good story? It’s not about lifting plots from Harry Potter or hoping you suddenly gain magic storytelling powers. It’s about making sure to tie together several key elements. As a reader, filmgoer, and enjoyer of gossip (admit it), you already know them. But you probably haven’t thought of them formally as story elements and likely haven’t used them much since grade school. The first element, as suggested above, is a killer opening. I have a whole blog post on this, so we’ll stick to basics: to get them to keep reading, start with something that grabs their attention. Usually it’s something in the middle of the action. If I’d started with One day I decided to watch TV (that’s what I was doing when I found the lump), you probably wouldn’t really care what happened next (um, I turned on the TV). Hopefully my actual opening makes you curious about the lump. But first we have to set context: It was mid-May 2001. I was a busy consultant in McKinsey’s Chicago office, the proud father of a boy about to turn one, and a generally happy guy in his early 30s. This part covers two key elements: it immediately places the killer opening in context and, in this case, introduces the stakes. Context (person, place, time) is important because readers want to understand the story’s circumstances; it helps them relate to the story, even if they’ve never been in that situation. Stakes are important because it’s hard to relate to a story if there’s little for the main character to lose. Luke Skywalker had to destroy the Death Star to prevent Darth Vader from taking over the universe, which would have meant a lot of suffering for everyone. If Dorothy couldn’t navigate Oz’s Yellow Brick Road past the Wicked Witch, she never would have gotten back home to Kansas. If I didn’t figure out the source of the lump and get it treated (if needed), I couldn’t have continued being a busy consultant, proud father, and generally happy guy. And remember, the universe (or even one’s life) needn’t be at stake to tell a story people relate to. But effective stakes are something most of us would fight for—health, a job, our community’s welfare, and the like. It was tempting to wish the lump would just go away, and for a few days that was my strategy. I didn’t even tell my wife. But soon I recognized that knowledge is power, and made an appointment with my doctor. Within a week I had a diagnosis: cancer. This keeps the reader interested because it brings in two new elements: an obstacle (cancer; see next month’s post and a previous one devoted to this element) and character (my personality traits). You know by now that I’m the main character, a consultant, father, etc. But the text above shows you what kind of character I am: one who’s human (tempted to wish something bad away) but also one who takes action in adverse circumstances (going to the doctor). Character isn’t only about positive traits though. Many essay questions ask you to discuss a time you failed or made a mistake. For those, you often highlight negative traits (e.g., Luke Skywalkers lack of faith in himself and the Force) upfront, but in the context of how you gained insights and ultimately more positive attributes from dealing with their consequences. Hopefully that gives you a good start on thinking about story elements—killer openings, context, stakes, obstacles, and character, so far—and how to use them in your essays. Next month I’ll wrap up with more on obstacles, outcome, and lessons learned. And of course I’ll tell you what happened in my story (though you can probably guess). The admissions consultants at Accepted.com  would be happy to help you use story elements to write effective essays. // Accepted.com ~ Helping You Write Your Best

Simple Analysis of Diction in the Scarlet Letter - 715 Words

Passage 1 Analysis In The Scarlet Letter, Nathaniel Hawthorne often demonstrates the frailty of humans. Nature is often described as beautiful, while the Puritan society and human nature are viewed in a harsh light. Hawthorne illustrates that human nature is flawed and judgmental through use of figurative language, critical diction, and symbolism. Figurative language plays a vital role in The Scarlet Letter, and this is evident as early as the first chapter. The passage pertaining to a rosebush in particular contains many instances of figurative language, as the rose-bush had been â€Å"kept alive in history† and may have existed because Ann Hutchinson entered the prison door. Issues in Accounting

Question : What is the Caontemporary Issues in Accounting ? Answer : Introduction The International Accounting Standards Board (IASB) has developed the conceptual framework in accounting that guides the preparation of financial reports by business corporations around the world. The main objective of conceptual framework in accounting is to ensure that business corporations prepare the financial statements as per the basic concepts of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS). The current accounting framework ensures that financial reports prepared by business corporations are in accordance with the standard accounting practices and procedures developed by IASB (Hoffman, 2016). In this context, the present report analyses and examines the compliance of annual reports of Commonwealth Bank and St. George Limited Bank as per the conceptual framework and AASB standard requirements. The banks areregistered under the ASX (Australian Securities Exchange) and the report aims to identify the differences in the financial disclosures of both the corporations. In addition to this, the report also addresses the inclusion of prudence for addressing the disparity in corporate reporting. The Commonwealth Bank is an Australian multinational bank operating its business across New Zealand, Asia, USA and the United Kingdom. The banking corporation prepares its annual report in accordance with the conceptual framework principle of reliability, relevance and comparability (Commonwealth Bank, 2016).. The relevance principle of conceptual framework ensures that financial reports prepared by a corporation should not be lengthy and complex to be understood by the end-users. The financial statement prepared by the Commonwealth bank is in accordance with this principle of conceptual framework as the financial information disclosed is simple and relevant for the end-users. The directors report of the banking corporation also declares that the financial figures presented in the financial statements are free from any material error in accordance with the materialistic principle of accounting. The banking corporation has disclosed all the materialistic financial information relating to Net Profit after Tax (NPAT), operating income, total revenue, Earnings before interest and tax (EBIT). This is done to comply with the reliability principle of conceptual framework according to which the financial information presented in annual report should be true and reliable. The financial reports are also prepared in accordance with comparability principle of conceptual framework of accounting (Whittington, 2008). The financial results of the current year presented in the annual report of the banking corporation are compared with the results of the previous year. This is done so that investors can easily predict the percentage growth of the bank in the current financial year for investment purpose . The directors report of the banking corporation has also presented detailed information regarding the compensation offered to key management personnel. The remuneration report of the Commonwealth bank is prepared in accordance with the standard accounting practices of AASB. The banking corporation has appointed its distinct remuneration committee to decide on the fixed and variable remuneration offered to key executive and non-executive directors. The remuneration report of the bank is developed in strict adherence with the AASB accounting rules and practice with no concealing of financial facts and figures related to compensation. The directors report presents clearly the accounting policies adopted for preparing the financial statements in order to comply with the AASB standards and the Corporations Act 2001. There is proper disclosure of consolidated financial statements that complies the financial information of all the subsidiaries of the bank in a single economic entity as per the Corporations Act 2001 (Mbira and Tapera, 2016). The financial statements are prepared as per the historic cost convention and the amounts in the financial report are rounded to the nearest million dollars in accordance with the AASB standard requirements (Commonwealth Bank, 2016). On the other hand, St. George is a banking corporation in Australia that has undergone merger with the Westpac banking corporation in the year 2008. St. George Bank is a small banking corporation in comparison to that of Commonwealth bank. The bank follows the principle of relevance, reliability and comparability of conceptual framework accounting as reflected from its annual report of the financial year 2008. The remuneration report of the bank also discloses all the relevant information regarding the fixed andvariable compensation offered to the key management personnel. The compensation offered to the key executive and non-executive directors are presented in the financial report clearly. However, the banking corporation has not clearly disclosed the information relating to the accounting policies and practices used in preparation of financial statements. The accounting method used in preparation of financial statements is not stated in the annual report and as such bank does not effective comply with the AASB standard requirements (St.George Bank Limited, 2009). Reason of Non-Compliance with the Conceptual Framework and AASB Standard Requirements As analyzed from the discussion above, the St. George bank does not effectively comply with the conceptual framework and AASB standard requirements. The reason for non-compliance of the banking corporation effectively with the AASB standard requirements may be due to its small-size business nature (St.George Bank Limited, 2009). AASB has developed its different set of accounting rules and policies for small-sized business entities and therefore it is not required by them to comply with all the conceptual framework and AASB standard requirements. The small-sized companies only need to follow the necessary accounting reporting rules known as IFRS SMEs that are developed exclusively for them (Ataman et al., 2014). Differences in disclosures of the Commonwealth and St. George Banking corporations The analyses and examination of the annual reports of Commonwealth bank and St. George bank has shown that there exists a wide difference between the annual report disclosure formats of both the corporations. The commonwealth bank complies with all the principles of conceptual framework accounting and AASB standard accounting practices. The accounting policies adopted in preparation of financial statements are in accordance with the AASB accounting practices to make them easily understood by the end-users. The financial information in the annual report is disclosed in a comprehensive format so that investors can easily analyze the financial position of the bank (Titilayo et al., 2014). The financial statements of the parent bank and all its subsidiaries are presented in a consolidated manner as per the accounting principle of consolidation (Unegbu, 2014). This is also done to ensure that all the financial facts and figures are disclosed to the investors with no hiding of financial in formation (Commonwealth Bank, 2016).. On the contrary, the annual report of St .George banking corporation before is merger with the Westpac Banking Corporation reveled that it does not effectively comply with all the AASB standard requirements. The bank has not properly disclosed the accounting policies adopted for preparation of financial statements. The annual report of the Commonwealth bank has adequately disclosed the accounting method used in preparation of its financial statements. However, the accounting method used by St. George bank is not properly revealed in its annual report. The bank has also not clearly revealed the accounting policies adopted for segment reporting and the different convention used for preparation of financial reports. Thus, as such there exist a wide difference between the annual report disclosures of the commonwealth bank and St. George bank limited (St.George Bank Limited, 2009). Addressing Corporate Disparity through including prudence in Conceptual Framework Revision The concept of prudence is in accordance with the conservatism principle of accounting that prevents overestimation of revenue and underestimation of expenses at the time of preparation of financial statements of business corporations. The concept of prudence has long been a part of conceptual framework for maintaining consistency in the financial reporting. However, it has been removed from conceptual framework on the basis of biasness it causes in financial reporting through introduction of conservatism (Malley, 2014). The concept of prudence was removed from the conceptual framework by the IASB in the year 2010 dues to its incapability in preparing of high quality financial reports. The concept is recently included in the conceptual framework revision to maintain neutrality of financial statements prepared by business corporations. The conceptual framework revision by IASB has included prudence to prevent the misrepresentation of financial statement by business corporations (Perso ns, 2013). The decision is taken by the IASB due to occurrence of large number of corporate scandals due to overstating of revenues and understating the expenses for enhancing their profitability position in the financial market. This caused the inclusion of prudence in the conceptual framework accounting so that reliable and valid financial information is presented to the investors. The inclusion of prudence in the conceptual framework will restrict the business corporations to enhance their profitability position without its actual occurrence. The concept of prudence would help in presenting realistic and faithful information to the stakeholders thus promoting transparency and authenticity in business operations. It will help in overcoming the corporate scandals that are occurring on large basis presently due to presentation of fraudulent information in the financial reporting (Mazhambe, 2014). The IASB has removed the concept of prudence initially in the conceptual framework of accounting as it restricts businesses in creation of hidden reserves. However, with the widespread occurrence of corporate scandals the inclusion of prudence has become of utmost significance for the International Accounting Standards Board (IASB). The concept of prudence has been on the debate since its origination as it tends to bring conservatism in business operations. The recent business scenario demands the presentation of accurate and realistic financial figures before the investors to create a good brand image in the financial market. Thus, IASB has incorporated the concept of prudence in the conceptual framework of accounting for conserving the interest of investors (Araujo and Gomes, 2015). Recommendations On the basis of overall discussion held in the report, it can be recommended to the business corporations that they should effectively comply with all the principles of conceptual framework and AASB standard requirements for strengthening their brand image. The effective compliance of conceptual framework and AASB standard requirements has caused the goodwill of the commonwealth bank in Australia (Commonwealth Bank, 2016).. On the other hand, St. George bank does not effectively comply with the AASB accounting standard requirements and thus has not achieved a global image in the financial market. The bank due to its poor financial performance has undergone merger with the Westpac banking corporation in the year 2008 (St.George Bank Limited, 2009). Thus, it is recommended to the business corporations worldwide to proper their financial statement in accordance with the accounting principles and conventions advocated by the IASB. In addition to this, the business corporations should eff ectively follow the principle of prudence in the preparation of their financial statements. This is essential for overcoming the occurrence of fraudulent activities by business corporations and presenting true and realistic financial figures before the end-users. The concept of prudence will help in overcoming the mis-representation of financial information and thus help in presenting reliable information to the end-users (Knight, 2004). Conclusion Thus, it can be said from the overall discussion held in the report that it is essential for the business organizations to comply with the principles of conceptual framework and AASB standard requirements. The accounting methods used for the preparation of financial statements must be in accordance with Corporations Act 2001 in Australia to effectively comply with the AASB standard requirements. Also, the concept of prudence in conceptual framework is essential for maintaining the neutrality of financial information. The preparation of financial reports by businesses in compliance with the prudence principle will ensure the presentation of accurate financial information to the investors. Harrison Bergeron the Power of Conformity free essay sample

The Power of Conformity In society we long to obtain the perception of a utopia, a visionary system of political or social perfection. A utopia is an ideology that consists of a perfect society that runs by perfect regulations, and because of this, our society tries to place rules on us as individuals as to what is acceptable and what is not in order to achieve this sense of equilibrium. We are then left with deciding for ourselves whether to conform to such a social decorum. In Harrison Bergeron, we encounter a society that has finally reached complete equality in the eyes of the author. However, throughout the text, we learn that our expectations that are imposed by society could result in chaos and that there is an extent of danger that total equality presents with it. We live in a society where competition is valued, a certain amount of competition has always been good. We will write a custom essay sample on Harrison Bergeron: the Power of Conformity or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page From a health standpoint, competition makes us work harder and train to be better athletes, and thus healthier in general. From a  business standpoint, it drives companies to improve their products, to streamline their production methods and develop the most effective methods of distributing wares. Even in healthcare, when physicians compete to be the best in their fields, it drives them to develop new medical discoveries. Competition as an entirety brings our world forward, which is a definite advantage for us. In Harrison Bergeron, we are faced with our perception of what seems to be a utopia, to be accomplished. Strangely enough, when Kurt Vonnegut, Jr. writes, â€Å"They were burdened with sash weights and bags of birdshot, and their faces were masked, so that no one, seeing a free and graceful gesture or a pretty face, would feel like the cat drug in. (Harrison Bergeron, Kurt Vonnegut, Jr. ), he reveals the drastic measures that were needed to take place in order for our goal of a utopian society to exist. The dancers on the television screen were given such extreme handicaps that few fell to the ground, this measure was created so that they would not appear to be superior to anyone else, so that everyone would be the same. In the real world however, this theory seems unr ealistic to many, as although everyone is finally treated the same, they are entirely, exactly what it is, the same. In this world, human nature would be suppressed through this lack of free will you are proposing and many of us wish to pursue an exciting life, life full of thrills and passion. This is not possible without a rush of blood, which usually comes from the wrong things, and without these factors which do not exist in a utopian society, our world would slowly crumble. Secondly, when Vonnegut Jr. writes Hazel’s line, â€Å"Reckon it’d fall all apart, society. † (Harrison Bergeron, Kurt Vonnegut, Jr. , Vonnegut is demonstrating the meandering, nonsensical interactions that have become standard in this fictional society. During this conversation, George is able to formulate an idea that society would disintegrate if people were to disregard the laws and to pose that idea as a hypothetical question, but because he is interrupted by the noise in his handicap, he loses track of his conversation. Even though Hazel is able to following his reasoning, he is unable to remember what he was talking about and she was not bright enough to bring up the topic again. The disturbing reality in this is that the law of equality goes unchallenged not because citizens believed in them deeply but because they are too bewildered to figure out what they think of the laws in the first place. If George were able to think in peace for a few hours, he might come to believe that the laws he defends are absurd. However, these laws, against which he would likely protest if he could, are the ones that prevent him from thinking for more than a few seconds at a stretch. In reality, this again relays back to our imperfect utopian society, if we were to fully create this world of complete equality, there will those who will be unable to think properly which defeats the purpose of making everyone equal. It doesn’t allow people a chance to completely make most of what has been given to them. Lastly, a large advantage of not conforming to every expectation given by society, is that people will see us, perhaps for the first time, without a mask. We will be true to ourselves and others will see who we truly are on the inside. They will see our talents, imperfections, and preferences. They will have the opportunity to accept us on our own terms. Despite the theory behind this, this wasn’t the case for where the text, Harrison Bergeron, took place. When Kurt Vonnegut, Jr. writes, â€Å"Harrison tore the straps of his handicap harness like wet tissue paper, tore straps guaranteed to support five thousand pounds. † (Harrison Bergeron, Kurt Vonnegut, Jr. ), He is presenting us with how Harrison represents the spark of defiance and individuality that still exists. He has none of the passivity or fearfulness that the others portrayed, but rather he is an exaggerated alpha male who hungers for power. When Harrison rips off his steel restraints and handicaps, the physical strength and beauty he reveals reminds some readers that underneath their own restraints and handicaps, they too are still talented or lovely. In today’s generation, we have been taught to live by the rules that have been played in front of us, with very few daring to break them, but the reality is, there are places where we can step outside of that box, places which allow us to become individuals with open minds, places where we can truly be ourselves without conforming to any expectations imposed by society, because that is, the truth behind the power of conformity.

The Pros and Cons of Different Energy Sources free essay sample

They are an important source of energy that we have come to rely on, however, these days there many discussions have been taking place concerning their usage and the impact they play on the environment. As such, I will now list the pros and cons of fossil fuels. The pros of fossil fuels are as follows: 1) One of the advantages of fossil fuels is their existence as high efficiency sources of energy. The reason for this is that, when consumed they produce large amounts of usable energy. 2) Another one of the advantages of fossil fuels is their availability. Fossil fuels are not difficult to obtain from the earth. Also, due to the fact that the extraction and refining processes don’t take long, the fuels are able to be converted from their crude form into forms that could be used for a number of different purposes (Buzzle. com, 2013). 3) The third advantage that fossil fuels have is the ease at which they can be transported. We will write a custom essay sample on The Pros and Cons of Different Energy Sources or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page Fossil fuels like coal are able to be transported by train, while oil and natural gas are transported by pipelines. This ease of transportation enables the places that convert these fossil fuels into usable forms, to not have to worry much about location (Buzzle. com, 2013). 4) And lastly, fossil fuels are not only used for energy, but also to create byproducts such as plastic that are used in almost everything (Locsin, n. d. ). Now, the cons of fossil fuels are as follows: 1) One of the major cons of fossil fuels is the danger they pose to the atmosphere. The burning of fossil fuels causes the release of large amounts of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. This is bad because carbon dioxide is one of the greenhouse gases that contribute to global warming. And that is not all, another one of the gases that is released when burning fossil fuels is sulfur dioxide. This toxic gas produces acid rain when it interacts with the atmosphere. 2) Another one of the cons of fossil fuels is the damage that is done to the landscape when collecting it. An example of this can be seen in coal mining. The landscape where coal is mined is damaged to the point where it is not able to be used for anything else. ) And last but not least, fossil fuels are a non-renewable source. And right now they are being used at an alarming pace because of how modernized our society is these days. So it might not be too far off in the future, when a time will come where we won’t be able to obtain anymore fossil fuels (Buzzle. com, 2013). What are the pros and cons of nuclear energy? The pros of nuclear energy are as follows: 1) One of the pros that nuclear energy b rings is a reduction in the amount of greenhouse gases released into the atmosphere. 2) The second advantage is their relatively low operating costs. ) And lastly, nuclear energy has a large power generating capabilities, that allow for it to be used for industrial and city aspects (Buzz, 2009). The cons of nuclear energy are as follows: 1) The cost of constructing a nuclear energy power plant is high. And that is due to the equipment that is needed to contain the radiation. 2) One of the major concerns of nuclear energy is the disaster that could follow in the event of an accident. 3) And last but not least, another con that really is troublesome is the trouble of disposing of the waste. For one, the waste can last for a couple hundred years. Also, there is the ever present danger that it could leak out and contaminate ground water sources in the area (Buzz, 2009). What are the pros and cons of solar energy? The pros of solar energy are as follows: 1) Solar energy is renewable source of energy. As long as the sun is shining, solar energy is able to be produced. 2) The second advantage is that it is a clean source of energy. 3) And lastly, solar energy is a free source of energy, and its solar panels require almost no maintenance (Energy for Mankind. org, 2011). The cons of solar energy are as follows: 1) Solar energy can only produce its maximum of energy during the day, and when the sun is shining the longest. 2) Solar panels are very expensive. 3) And lastly, a lot of space is needed in order so the exact amount of solar panels that are needed could be installed (Energy for Mankind. org, 2011). What are the pros and cons of wind power? The pros of wind power are as follows: 1) It is a renewable source of energy. 2) It is also clean and free source of energy. 3) It won’t take long to recover the cost of purchasing and installing the wind turbine. ) And finally, a cool advantage of wind power is the fact that the electric company will reward for any excess energy that you produce but don’t use (Bernard, n. d. ). The cons of wind power are as follows: 1) One of the cons of wind power is its inconsistency. Since wind does not blow continually, wind turbines usually operate at 30% of their capacity. 2) Wind turbines have expensiv e upfront costs. 3) And lastly, another con of wind power is location. A wind turbine requires a lot of open land, in order to operate properly (Bernard, n. d. . What are the pros and cons of water (hydro) power? The pros of hydro energy are as follows: 1) Hydro power is a clean, renewable source of energy. 2) With the construction of a dam, there will be an abundance of electricity produced for many years. The cons of hydro power are as follows: 1) One of the cons of hydro power is the cost of constructing the dam. 2) The dams have to be built to the highest of standards. Precision, accuracy, and the right materials need to be utilized in order to achieve that goal (Energy for Mankind. org, 2011). What are the pros and cons of biofuels? The pros of biofuels are as follows: 1) Biofuels produce less carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases than a fossil fuel like oil. 2) Another advantage of biofuels is that they are immediately useable. 3) And lastly, Biofuels are high quality fuels that have allowed us to reduce our dependence on fossil fuels (Biofuel sustainability pros amp; cons, 2006). The cons of biofuels are as follows: 1) One of the cons of biofuels, is an increase in the clearing of rainforests in developing countries, in order to grow biofuel crops like corn. ) The growth of biofuel crops can have a negative impact on the prices and security of food. 3) And lastly, the creation of biofuels burns more energy than what is contained in the finished product. Therefore it isn’t an efficient fuel (Cunningham, n. d. ). When it comes to the Energy Policy Act of 2005, two of its provisions that I found interesting are the daylight savings time extension, and the creatio n of the energy star program. In the provision concerning daylight savings time; the daylight savings time was extended two weeks in the spring, and one week in the fall. These changes were to take place in the month of August of 2006. On the other hand, in the provision about the creation of the Energy Star program, the government created the program under the DOE and Environmental Protection Agency. The symbol of the Energy Star serves as an indicator of energy-efficient products and buildings. Last but not least, some of the tax incentives included in the Energy Policy Act of 2005, were for the installation of energy efficient appliances, residential energy properties, new homes, commercial buildings and more (Think Energy Management, LLC. n. d. ). Tips For Writing a Sample Essay

Tips For Writing a Sample EssayAre you just learning how to write a sample essay? Do you want to get the most out of your writing, but not know where to start? This article will give you some tips on how to prepare for your essay.First, don't worry about plagiarism; plagiarism is very common in written English. All you need to do is read other people's essays and compare them to yours. If they can use one or two paragraphs that you've used, then you can borrow it, but don't steal it. If you are unsure of the exact source of a sentence, you should look it up in a dictionary to see what words are actually used to describe it. If you're looking at a picture and you can't figure out what the eyes mean, you should simply read it to get the meaning.Second, when you're learning how to write a sample essay, keep in mind that you are writing for your future employer, not your prospective future. Even if you have a lot of experience in college, be careful not to assume you know what your writi ng needs to be. Even if you are an excellent writer, you need to learn about grammar, spelling, and structure before you begin your essay. You might need help with these things, and you might even learn something new by studying these tips.Third, write from the point of view of your readers. Don't try to persuade your readers to agree with you. Focus on what your reader wants to hear, and try to convey that as clearly as possible. You don't want to end up sounding like a salesperson or a salesman, but you also don't want to be too preachy.Fourth, always include your contact information in your sample essay. This is important because it gives your readers the opportunity to get in touch with you to ask questions and provide feedback. This helps build a relationship with your readers, which is a really important thing to remember when you're writing your essay.Fifth, take the time to read over your essay at least once before you send it in. It's important to read through your sample s o that you can spot problems and to make sure that everything works. If you're not happy with the essay you wrote, you can go back and edit it until you are happy with it. However, you must send in the same essay as your original one.If you've been practicing on your own, this last tip can be especially helpful. It's a good idea to have a friend or mentor read through your sample essay before you send it in, as well as offer you constructive criticism and suggestions about your essay.

Heres How to Calculate pH Values

Here's How to Calculate pH Values Heres a quick review of how to calculate pH and what pH means with respect to hydrogen ion concentration, acids, and bases. Key Takeaways pH is a measure of how acidic or basic a chemical solution is.Normally, pH runs from 0 to 14.A neutral pH value is 7. A value less than 7 is acidic, while a value greater than 7 is basic. The formula for pH is  pH -log[H]. This means pH is the negative base 10 logarithm (log on a calculator) of the hydrogen ion concentration of a solution. To calculate it, take the log of the hydrogen ion concentration and reverse the sign to get the answer. Review of Acids, Bases, and pH Formula There are several ways to define acids and bases, but pH only refers to hydrogen ion concentration and is only meaningful when applied to aqueous (water-based) solutions. When water dissociates it yields a hydrogen ion and a hydroxide. H2O ↔ H OH- When calculating pH, remember that [] refers to molarity, M. Molarity is expressed in units of moles of solute per liter of solution (not solvent). If you are given concentration in any other unit (mass percent, molality, etc.), convert it to molarity in order to use the pH formula. Using the concentration of hydrogen and hydroxide ions, the following relationship results: Kw [H][OH-] 1x10-14 at 25 °Cfor pure water [H] [OH-] 1x10-7Acidic Solution: [H] 1x10-7Basic Solution: [H] 1x10-7 How to Calculate pH and [H] The equilibrium equation yields the following formula for pH: pH -log10[H][H] 10-pH In other words, pH is the negative log of the molar hydrogen ion concentration. Or, the molar hydrogen ion concentration equals 10 to the power of the negative pH value. Its easy to do this calculation on any scientific calculator because it will have a log button. This is not the same as the ln button, which refers to the natural logarithm. Example: Calculate the pH for a specific [H]. Calculate pH given [H] 1.4 x 10-5 M pH -log10[H]pH -log10(1.4 x 10-5)pH 4.85 Example: Calculate [H] from a known pH. Find [H] if pH 8.5 [H] 10-pH[H] 10-8.5[H] 3.2 x 10-9 M Example: Find the pH if the H concentration is 0.0001 moles per liter. pH -log[H]Here it helps to rewrite the concentration as 1.0 x 10-4 M because if you understand how logarithms work, this makes the formula: pH -(-4) 4 Or, you could simply use a calculator and take: pH - log (0.0001) 4 Usually, you arent given the hydrogen ion concentration in a problem but have to find it from a chemical reaction or acid concentration. Whether this is easy or not depends on whether youre dealing with a strong acid or a weak acid. Most problems asking for pH are for strong acids because they completely dissociate into their ions in water. Weak acids, on the other hand, only partially dissociate, so at equilibrium, a solution contains both the weak acid and the ions into which it dissociates. Example: Find the pH of a 0.03 M solution of hydrochloric acid, HCl. Hydrochloric acid is a strong acid that dissociates according to a 1:1 molar ratio into hydrogen cations and chloride anions. So, the concentration of hydrogen ions is exactly the same as the concentration of the acid solution. [H 0.03 M pH - log (0.03)pH 1.5 pH and pOH You can easily use the pH value to calculate pOH if you recall: pH pOH 14 This is particularly useful if youre asked to find the pH of a base since youll usually solve for pOH rather than pH. Check Your Work When youre performing a pH calculation, its a good idea to make sure your answer makes sense. An acid should have a pH much less than 7 (usually 1 to 3), while a base has a high pH value (usually around 11 to 13). While its theoretically possible to calculate a negative pH, in practice pH values should be between 0 and 14. This, a pH higher than 14 indicates an error either in setting up the calculation or else using the calculator.

How Meaning of Words Change Throughout the Generations Research Paper

How Meaning of Words Change Throughout the Generations - Research Paper Example That indicates that it is common for an individual from outside a circle to get lost when engaging in a discussion from members who belong to the same circles. However, some slang words usage remains almost the same with only acquiring growth in terms of usage across various cultures and group settings. The usage of the words may at times become seasonal where almost every group uses the word at a certain period and then the word gets replaced by another more appealing word. Some slangs may, however, maintain the same meaning while compared with the dictionary meaning although changes may result over time. The paper examines the usage and meaning of the word cool according to the researcher’s perspective and how the circle that the researcher belongs to uses the word in expressing opinions or reactions. As a student, my circle comprises of students in a few groupings from the academic platform and the extra-curricular platform. As a student, interactions are common with group members and other classmates as most of the day time hours are spent together with other students. On the other hand, as a footballer for the school team, interactions with other team members are evident during training and game time. The word cool as used in the two group settings is often used in the two group settings mostly to signify something good. The difference between the meaning of the word is portrayed while examining the result that I attributed to the word cool by these two groups. Consider for example a situation where upon submitting a group representation in the class, our study group scored eighty percent, although the performance was the fifth while compared to the other groups. From citing the performance as cool, the group leader and the group members signified that although the performance was not excellent, it was good.
